Texus Fibre rebrands to Lanaco
Texus Fibre a New Zealand company that produces innovative natural fibre products from wool, has decided to rebrand to Lanaco in 2017. The name change reflected the company’s evolution from a research and development start-up to a global leader in wool-based air filtration products.
/ˈlana/ (noun) is Latin for wool.
Texus Fibre was founded in 2011 by material applications engineer and CEO Nick Davenport, who saw the potential of wool as a high-performance fibre for various applications. The company developed a proprietary technology platform that enabled it to create functional materials derived from natural wool.
One of the company’s flagship products is the EcoStatic® Helix™ Filter, a wool-based filter media that offers superior protection against air pollution, bacteria and viruses.
In order to produce its high-quality products, Lanaco has partnered with sheep breeder Andy Ramsden to develop a new breeding programme called Astino™. The Astino™ programme dictates the breed of sheep and specification of wool specifically for Lanaco’s filter media, with wool that has unique filtration benefits. The result is a filter media with market-leading characteristics in permeability and filtration efficiency.
The Astino™ breed launches along with the opening of Lanaco’s new Auckland facility, an end-to-end research, product development and manufacturing hub. The facility gives Lanaco control of the entire supply chain, from woolshed to shop window.
Lanaco’s rebranding and expansion marks a significant milestone for the company and the New Zealand wool industry. By moving up the value chain and creating premium products that improve people’s lives, Lanaco has shown how wool can regain its crown as a miracle material.
